Official Full Name: EPH receptor A2
Also known as: ECK; CTPA; ARCC2; CTPP1; CTRCT6
This gene belongs to the ephrin receptor subfamily of the protein tyrosine kinase family. EPH and EPH-related receptors are involved in mediating developmental events, especially in the nervous system. Receptors in the EPH subfamily typically possess a single kinase domain and an extracellular region containing a Cys-rich domain and 2 fibronectin type III repeats. Ephrin receptors are divided into two classes based on the similarity of their extracellular domain sequences and their binding affinity for ephrin-a and ephrin-b ligands. This gene encodes a protein that binds the ephrin-A ligand. Mutations in this gene are responsible for certain inherited cataract diseases.
