Analysis of FGF-21 (Rat) by MSD Hypersensitive Multi-Factor Electrochemiluminescence Analyzer (CAT#: STEM-MB-0176-LGZ)

Introduction

Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF-21) is expressed in many tissues, including liver, brown adipose tissue, white adipose tissue, and pancreas, and in mice, circulating FGF-21 originates from the liver. FGF-21 promotes glucose uptake by fat cells but has no effect on other types of cells. Serum FGF-21 is significantly elevated in patients with type II diabetes (T2DM), suggesting its role in the pathogenesis of T2DM. Elevated FGF-21 is also associated with liver fat content in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and is positively correlated with BMI in humans, suggesting that obesity is a consequence of tolerance to FGF-21.
