Gelsolin is a member of the gelsolin superfamily. It is an important actin-binding protein that controls the structure of actin by cutting, capping actin filaments, or nucleating actin. In addition to its role in reorganizing actin filaments, gelsolin also plays an important role in cellular activities such as cell motility and control of programmed cell death. In addition, the expression of gelsolin in tumor cells also changed. Variations in gelsolin also underlie certain genetic diseases.
