Official Full Name: H2A clustered histone 21
Also known as: H2AB; HIST2H2AB
Histones are fundamental nuclear proteins responsible for the structure of eukaryotic chromosome fibers in the nucleosome. Nucleosomes consist of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of each of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4). By linking DNA interactions between histone H1 and nucleosomes, chromatin fibers are further compacted to form higher-order chromatin structures. This gene is intronless and encodes a replication-dependent histone that is a member of the H2A histone family. The transcript of this gene contains a palindromic termination element.
