The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) family consists of two ligands (IGF-I and IGF-II), at least two receptors (IGF-IR and IGF-IIR), six high affinity binding proteins (IGFBP 1-7), and a set of low affinity IGFBP-related proteins (IGFBP-RPs). Members of the IGF family form a network of interactions among themselves and with other families of growth factors and their signaling pathways. IGFs play an important role in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis and transformation.
