Official Full Name: ribosomal protein L27a
Also known as: L27A; uL15
The ribosome is an organelle that catalyzes protein synthesis and consists of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits consist of 4 RNAs and about 80 structurally distinct proteins. The ribosomal protein encoded by this gene is a component of the 60S subunit. This protein belongs to the L15P family of ribosomal proteins. It is located in the cytoplasm. Altered expression of this gene has been observed in colorectal cancer compared with adjacent normal tissue, although no correlation between expression levels and disease severity was found. As a typical gene encoding ribosomal proteins, multiple processing pseudogenes from this gene are scattered throughout the genome.
