Official Full Name: ribosomal protein S20
Also known as: S20; uS10
The ribosome is an organelle that catalyzes protein synthesis and consists of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits consist of 4 RNAs and about 80 structurally distinct proteins. The ribosomal protein encoded by this gene is a component of the 40S subunit. This protein belongs to the S10P family of ribosomal proteins. It is located in the cytoplasm. This gene is co-transcribed with the small nucleolar RNA gene U54 located on its second intron. As a typical gene encoding ribosomal proteins, multiple processing pseudogenes of this gene are scattered throughout the genome. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms of this gene have been identified.
