Official Full Name: sperm mitochondria associated cysteine rich protein
Also known as: MCS; MCSP; HSMCSGEN1
Sperm mitochondria differ from somatic cells in morphology and subcellular location. They are long and flat and form a helical coiled sheath in the middle of the sperm flagella. The protein encoded by this gene localizes to the sac associated with the outer mitochondrial membrane and is thought to play a role in the organization and stabilization of the mitochondrial sheath helix in sperm.
