Cloning Ring and Cylinder

Cloning cylinders, discs and rings are used to isolate a single cell or group of cells for cell identification by surrounding them. To isolate a clone, a thin layer of sterile silicone grease is applied to the bottom edge of the cylinder before pressing to the bottom of a culture flask to create an isolated well. After adding a small volume of Trypsin or EDTA, the dish is incubated at 37ºC (98.6ºF) briefly until cells detach. Cells are then collected from inside the cylinder and transferred to another vessel for further growth. Available in varying heights and diameters and manufactured from glass, paper, or polystyrene.
