Oligo Synthesis & Desalting

Oligonucleotide synthesis is the chemical synthesis of relatively short fragments of nucleic acids with defined chemical structure (sequence). The technique is extremely useful in current laboratory practice because it provides a rapid and inexpensive access to custom-made oligonucleotides of the desired sequence. Oligonucleotides (or oligos) have many uses from research to disease diagnosis and recently therapeutics. The wide availability of inexpensive synthetic single-stranded DNA and RNA has opened the way for routine DNA amplification by PCR. In addition to their use as PCR primers, oligonucleotides are used as probes, in microarray, in situ hybridization, and antisense analyses, and even as drug carriers.
