Polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, is a technique to make many copies of a specific DNA region in vitro (in a test tube rather than an organism). PCR workstations are designed to protect against contamination during sensitive PCR amplification and manipulation of DNA or RNA. Since minimizing cross-contamination in turn minimizes inaccurate results, PCR cabinets and hoods are useful additions to the molecular biology and genomics lab. Features include UV light for sterilization and overlapping seams or seamless construction so harmful energy cannot escape the chamber.
