A signal generator is one of a class of electronic devices that creates voltage waveforms at a desired amplitude, frequency, and wave shape. The operator can easily set and adjust the parameters of a waveform with the instrument’s front panel. These generated signals are sent to a device under test for electronic measurements, typically used in designing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic or electroacoustic devices, though it often has artistic uses as well. There are a number of signal generators with different purposes and applications and at varying levels of expense: function generators, RF and microwave signal generators, arbitrary waveform generators, vector signal generator, digital pattern generators, frequency generators, video signal generator, pitch generators and audio generators.
