Urinary System Animal Model

The urinary system consists of the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra. The kidneys form the urine and account for the other functions attributed to the urinary system. The ureters carry the urine away from kidneys to the urinary bladder, which is a temporary reservoir for the urine. Urologic diseases or conditions include urinary tract infections, kidney stones, bladder control problems, and prostate problems, among others. Some urologic conditions last only a short time, while others are long-lasting. Urologic disorders have been increasing in morbidity and mortality over the years, thus there is an urgent need for the discovery of new therapies. Animal models are important in preclinical studies for pharmacodynamic testing.
