In histology, sectioning refers to the service of cleanly and consistently cutting paraffin embedded or frozen tissue into a thin slice. These thin slices are referred to as sections and are then mounted to a slide. A vibratome is an instrument used to cut thin slices of material It is similar to a microtome but uses a vibrating blade to cut through tissue. The vibrating microtome accurately cuts tissue under physiological conditions without freezing or embedding. Vibrating microtomes’ capability to sustain the viability of the tissue, enzyme activity, and structure of the cell, makes these slicing tools one of the most preferable and used tools in enzyme histochemistry and rodent neuroscientific research.
