A voltmeter, also known as a voltage meter, is an instrument used for measuring the voltage or electric potential difference between two points in an electronic or electrical circuit. A voltmeter has high internal resistance, thus, it is wired in parallel with the device connected. There are several basic varieties of voltmeter: analogue voltmeter, electrostatic voltmeter, digital voltmeter and amplified voltmeter. The voltmeter is primarily used for potential difference measurement in Alternating Current (AC) circuits or Direct Current (DC) circuits. Alternatively, Radio Frequency (RF) voltage can also be measured by specialized voltmeters.
