Detection of Cellulose in Plant Tissues

Cellulose is a complex carbohydrate or polysaccharide composed of hundreds of glucose molecules. It makes up a major component of the plant cell wall and presents in many plant organs such as fruits, leaves and vegetables. Cellulose gives the plant strength, aids in upright growth, and is also necessary for plant cell division. The content of cellulose is related to whether the mechanical tissue of plant cells is developed or not, thus affecting the ability of crops to resist lodging, diseases, and insect pests. The determination of cellulose content in grain, vegetable, and fiber crop products is an important index to identify its quality.

STEMart is able to efficiently and accurately detect the change of cellulose content in plant samples with the combination of HPLC and biochemical methods.
