Flow injection analysis (FIA) (CAT#: STEM-AC-0053-WXH)

Introduction

Flow injection analysis (FIA) is an approach to chemical analysis. It is accomplished by injecting a plug of sample into a flowing carrier stream. Flow injection (FI) analysis has become an established tool for sample presentation and online treatment (chemical and physical) in the laboratory environment.

Principle

Flow injection analysis (FIA) is an automated method in which a sample (analyte) is injected into a continuous flow of a carrier solution, which mixes with other flowing solutions (reagents) before reaching a detector. This technique is straightforward with very low sample and reagent consumption and high sampling frequencies. Flow injection analysis has a number of advantages. One of the most important is the shorter analysis time in comparison with chromatographic methods and the possibility of real-time continuous monitoring.

Applications

very useful in marine science for both organic and inorganic analytes in marine animal samples/seafood.
