Heart-on-a-Chip

Lung-on-a-chip is a microfluidic device that consists of a series of chambers connected by tiny channels that allow for the flow of fluids. The chambers are typically lined with human heart cells, known as cardiomyocytes, to replicate the physiological functions of the human heart. The heart-on-a-chip is equipped with sensors that monitor the contractions of the cardiomyocytes.

What We Can Do for You

Heart-on-a-chip provides a more accurate model of the human heart compared to traditional animal models, making it a valuable tool for studying diseases such as heart failure, arrhythmias, and cardiotoxicity of drugs. It also allows for the development of personalized medicine by using patient-specific cells to create a model of their heart on the chip. STEMart is able to utilize heart-on-a-chip to provide the following services:

  • Drug screening: Study how different compounds affect cardiac function and identify potential side effects before testing on animals or humans, predicting drug responses and reducing the risk of adverse reactions.
  • Disease modeling: Recreate various cardiac diseases phenotype, such as arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, and heart failure to understand disease progression, identify new therapeutic targets, and develop personalized treatment strategies.
  • Toxicity testing: Assess the cardiotoxicity of environmental toxins, industrial chemicals, and pharmaceutical compounds and evaluate their impact on heart function and identify potential risks to human health.
  • Mechanistic studies: Study the physiological responses of cardiac tissue to different stimuli, such as mechanical stretch, electrical stimulation, and biochemical signals, providing insights into the normal functioning of the heart and its pathophysiological conditions.
