Hypothyroidism Animal Model (CAT#: STEM-AE-0078-WXH)

Introduction

Hypothyroidism (hypothyroidism), which refers to the level of serum thyroid hormones below the normal range, is a common endocrine disease. Thyroid hormones not only play an important role in the developmental maturation and functional maintenance of the central nervous system, but also participate in higher cognitive functions. Studies have found that hypothyroidism can lead to decreased cognitive function, decreased learning and memory ability, and is considered a risk factor for dementia.

Applications

• Primary hypothyroidism and thyroid hormone (TH) resistance syndrome research.
• Research on the action of thyroid hormones, drug pharmacology, etc.

Procedure

• Antithyroid drug-induced hypothyroidism model: Drugs include methylthiouracil (MTU) and propylthiouracil (PTU). Drugs were introduced into rats by intraperitoneal injection, gavage, or dissolved in drinking water.
• Congenital hypothyroidism model: removal of the thyroid gland during the embryonic period or administration of antithyroid drugs can reduce the synthesis or (and) release of thyroxine in animals, resulting in hypothyroidism, resulting in congenital disorders mainly of central nervous system developmental retardation.
