Impact testing is used to observe the behavior of the materials experiencing a shock loading and detect the structural weaknesses and functional degradation of materials. This testing can help manufacturer understand the materials' strength and resistance to impact and drop. Impact testing provide basic data for evaluation of product safety and quality control.
STEMart performs a variety of impact testing for metals, plastics, woods, composites, ceramics, and polymers to evaluate their toughness, impact strength, fracture resistance and impact resistance.
Impact Testing Types
-
Charpy impact testing: Determine the notch sensitivity (toughness) of the materials by measuring the amount of energy absorbed by the materials during fracture.
-
Izod impact strength testing: Study the behavior of notched specimens with specified size under specified impact force, and to estimate the degree of brittleness or toughness of hard materials under specified conditions.
-
Instrumented impact testing: Study the surface strengthening effect of the material, and the toughness and brittleness of the material.
-
Drop-weight testing: Determine the impact resistance of material by falling a heavy hammer on the material from different heights.
-
Dynamic tear testing: Evaluate the crack growth resistance of metal materials and characterize the full range of transformation characteristics of materials.
-
Tensile impact testing: Determine the ability of very thin and flexible film or plate material to withstand forces due to sudden tensile loading.
