Breast cancer treatments can be very effective, achieving survival rates of 90 percent or higher, especially when the disease is caught early. Treatment usually includes surgery and radiation therapy aimed at controlling disease in the breast, lymph nodes, and surrounding areas (local control) and systemic therapy aimed at treating and/or reducing the risk of malignancy spreading (metastasis) (oral or intravenous anticancer drugs). Anticancer drugs include endocrine (hormone) therapies, chemotherapy, and in some cases targeted biological therapies (antibodies).
