Jacalin (Artocarpus integrifolia lectin) from G-Biosciences was isolated from jackfruit seeds and purified by affinity chromatography. Jacalin is an α-d-galactose-binding lectin, composed of a tetramer two-chain structure, with a molecular weight of about 66kDa.
Jacalin, due to its carbohydrate-binding properties, is useful in hematology, immunology or as a marker of membrane glycoproteins. Jacalin can be immobilized as a solid support and used for isolation of IgA from human serum, isolation of human plasma glycoproteins and histochemical applications.
G-Biosciences Jacalin is supplied as a lyophilized powder.
