Lung-on-a-Chip

Lung-on-a-chip is a microfluidic device that consists of a clear, flexible membrane lined with human lung cells, including epithelial cells, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts to mimic the microarchitecture and physiological function of the human lung. The membrane also contains tiny channels that represent the blood vessels in the lung, allowing for the exchange of gases and nutrients.

The lung-on-a-chip device is designed to simulate the mechanical movements of the lungs, such as breathing and coughing, by applying vacuum pressure to stretch and relax the membrane. This helps to mimic the dynamic nature of the lung tissue and study the effects of mechanical forces on lung function.

What We Can Do for You

Gut-on-a-chip provides a more accurate representation of human lung physiology compared to traditional cell cultures and animal models, making it a valuable tool for drug discovery and personalized medicine. STEMart is able to utilize lung-on-a-chip to provide the following services:

  • Disease modeling: Model various lung diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer to understand disease progression, develop new therapeutic strategies, and test the efficacy of potential drugs.
  • Drug testing: Evaluate drug absorption, metabolism, and toxicity in a controlled microenvironment to test the safety and efficacy of new drugs.
  • Toxicology studies: Assess the impacts of environmental toxins, pollutants, and other harmful substances on lung function, inflammation, and cell viability, providing insights into the mechanisms of toxic lung injury.
  • Personalized medicine: Develop personalized model with patient-derived cells to study individual responses to drugs and toxins, and tailor treatment strategies accordingly.
  • Mechanistic studies: Investigate the underlying mechanisms of lung diseases and physiological processes.
