Description

Carbon dioxide capture is the process of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere or from other sources such as industrial emissions. This is usually done to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. Carbon dioxide capture can be accomplished through a variety of methods, including chemical absorption, physical separation, and adsorption. Once the carbon dioxide is captured, it can be stored in underground geological formations, in the ocean, or in other safe places. This process helps reduce the total amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, mitigating the effects of climate change.

Gas transfer membrane contact allows gas transfer from gas/solution (water) to air or porous dispersion through hydrophobic membrane absorption. The contactor consists of thousands of capillary fibers (made of PP or Teflon polymers) wound around a central tube. Since hollow fiber membranes are hydrophobic (water repellent), liquid (water) cannot penetrate the pores of the membrane walls. The higher the pressure difference between the liquid flow and the gas flow, the better because the air transfer membrane is higher. Therefore, the contactor provides a constant interface area over the entire flow range.
