White blood cell interleukin 5 (IL-5) is a member of the interleukin family, consisting of 115 amino acids. It is primarily produced by type 2 helper T cells and mast cells. IL-5 plays a crucial role in stimulating the growth of B cells and enhancing immunoglobulin secretion, making it a pivotal factor in the activation of eosinophils. Over time, IL-5 has been associated with various allergic diseases, including allergic rhinitis and asthma. Additionally, IL-5 is linked to the terminal differentiation of eosinophils. Initially identified as an eosinophil colony-stimulating factor, IL-5 has been proven to be the principal regulatory factor for eosinophil aggregation within tissues and can modulate eosinophil behavior at every stage from maturation to survival.
The lyophilized formulation can be stored at 2-8°C for 24 months. For reconstitution, it can be dissolved in injection-grade water, physiological saline, culture medium, or PBS. After dissolution, it should be divided into smaller aliquots and stored at -20°C for 6 months or at -80°C for 12 months. It is important to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
