Torsion Test

Torsion Testing applies a specified twisting force to test sample by anchoring one end for fixation and applying a moment to the other end to make the sample rotate about its axis. The rotating moment may also be applied to both ends of the sample but the ends must be rotated in opposite directions. The material or test component is twisted to a specified degree until it fails in torsion. Torsion Testing is designed to evaluate the performance of a material or test sample when twisted or under torsional forces as a result of applied moments that cause shear stress about an axis or pivot.

STEMart performs a variety of torsion testing to evaluate the torsional strength, stiffness and stress-strain properties of test materials.

Torsion Testing Types

  • Failure Testing: Measure the strength of the sample by twisting the test sample until it breaks.
  • Proof Testing: Observe the sample under a specified torque load over a set period of time.
  • Operational Testing: Measure the samples' performance under the expected service conditions of its application.

Torsion Testing Materials

  • Polymers
  • Plastics
  • Metals
  • Ceramics
  • Woods
  • Composites
  • Textiles
  • Adhesives

STEMart's expert team can advise on which test is best for your specific requirements depending on the project goal. For more information about our torsion testing services, please contact us.
