Trypan Blue Staining to detect cell viability (CAT#: STEM-CBT-0026-WXH)

Introduction

Trypan blue is a stain used to quantify live cells by labeling dead cells exclusively. Because live cells have an intact cell membrane, trypan blue cannot penetrate the cell membrane of live cells and enter the cytoplasm. In a dead cell, trypan blue passes through the porous cell membrane and enters the cytoplasm.

Applications

• Check the integrity of the cell membrane
• Check if the cells are alive

Procedure

1. Prepare trypan blue solution
2. Digest cultured adherent cells
3. Make cell suspension
4. Dilution
5. Add dye for dyeing
6. Observe and count under the microscope
7. Statistical analysis
