Aldehyde dehydrogenases (ALDH) are a family of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (phosphate) (NAD(P)) dependent enzymes, typically with a molecular mass of ca. 50–60 kDa. They oxidise a large range of aliphatic and aromatic, endogenous and exogenous aldehydes to form the corresponding carboxylic acids.
