Plasmids are a class of autonomously replicating genetic components that exist in the cytoplasm and are independent of chromosomes. Plasmid extraction refers to the removal of RNA, the separation of plasmids and bacterial genomic DNA, and the removal of proteins and other impurities to obtain relatively pure plasmids. There are three commonly used plasmid extraction methods: alkaline lysis, boiling and detergent lysis.
