Application: The SpaceOAR System aims to temporarily keep the anterior rectum wall away from the prostate when prostate cancer patients accept the radiotherapy.
The SpaceOAR system is composed of components used to prepare a synthetic, absorbable hydrogel spacer and a single-use delivery system. Hydrogel spacer formed in situ establishes a temporary room between the rectum and prostate during radiation therapy. The Diluent solution (Trilysine buffer solution) is mixed with the PEG powder to produce the Precursor solution. Then, the Precursor solution is mixed with the Accelerator solution which is a salt buffer solution to produce the spacer. The solutions is mixed when passing though a static mixer in the Y-Connector before going through the injection needle. SpaceOAR hydrogel implant and all other SpaceOAR System delivery components are MR compatible while the 304 stainless steel applicator needle is not.
