This service provides an agarose gel electrophoresis method to separate, analyze, identify, and purify DNA fragments. Using this method, DNA fragments that cannot be adequately separated by other procedures, such as density gradient centrifugation, can be resolved. Staining with fluorescent intercalating dyes, such as ethidium bromide or SYBR Gold, can be used to determine the location of DNA bands within the gel directly; by examining the gel directly in ultraviolet (UV) light, bands containing as little as 20 pg of double-stranded DNA can be detected. DNA bands can be recovered from gels if necessary.
