Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is a cytokine of the chemokine family. It is a cytokine of multicellular origin (mainly produced by activated T cells) and pleiotropic effects (mainly promoting the growth, proliferation, and differentiation of lymphocytes). It plays an important role in the body's immune response and antiviral infection. It can stimulate the proliferation of T cells that have been activated by specific antigens or mitogenic factors; it can activate T cells and promote cytokine production; it can stimulate NK cell proliferation and enhance NK killing activity and cytokine production, induce LAK cell production; promote B cell proliferation and antibody secretion; activate macrophages.
