Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 14 (TNFSF14), also known as LIGHT, is a secreted protein of the TNF superfamily. It is recognized by herpesvirus entry mediators as well as decoy receptor 3. This protein is a ligand for TNFRSF14, a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily also known as a herpesvirus entry medium (HVEM). It has two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms. It acts as a co-stimulator for the activation of lymphocytes and as a deterrent for herpes virus infection. It has been shown to stimulate the proliferation of T cells, induce apoptosis of various tumor cells and play a role in the normalization of blood vessels. It also prevented TNF-α-mediated apoptosis in primary hepatocytes. It has been shown to interact with TNFRSF14, TNFRSF6B, BIRC2, TRAF2 and TRAF3.
