Osteocalcin (OC), also known as R-hydroxy glutamic acid protein (GLa protein), is a kind of protein composed of 49 amino acids. It belongs to the non-collagen acid glycoprotein, which is a vitamin K dependent calcium binding protein. It is mainly synthesized by osteoblasts, odontoblast cells, and some by proliferative chondrocytes. It plays an important role in regulating bone calcium metabolism, and is a new biochemical marker for the study of bone metabolism, which has important value for the diagnosis of osteoporosis syndrome and abnormal calcium metabolism and other diseases.
