The resin is covalently linked to a polyacrylamide carrier by boronic acid, and can easily separate small molecular weight compounds with cis-diol groups. Mechanism: Boronic acid interacts with the cis-diol in the sugar moiety of nucleotides to form a reversible five-membered ring complex. Impurities are washed away, and then the complex dissociates at low pH or in the presence of sorbitol. The polyacrylamide support excludes molecules up to 6000 Da from entering the resin bed and is therefore only suitable for small molecules.
