Hematuria is defined as ≥3 red blood cells per high magnification field in centrifugally precipitated urine, or more than 100,000 red blood cells in non-centrifugally urine ≥1 hour, or more than 500,000 red blood cells in urine sediment over 12 hours. All of these conditions indicate an abnormal increase of red blood cells in the urine, and hematuria is a common urinary symptom. Causes of hematuria include inflammation of the urinary system, tuberculosis, stones or tumors, trauma, drugs, etc.
