Ion exchange chromatography can be used as a separate purification step or as a second polishing purification step after affinity chromatography purification as an orthogonal chemistry to obtain high purity final products. The result is complete protein capture and high final protein concentrations. Ion-exchange chromatography is a generally mild method of purification due to the physiological buffers used during the protocol.
