Description

Gas transfer membrane contactors allow gases (such as oxygen/carbon dioxide/ammonia/hydrogen sulfide/nitrogen dioxide, etc.) to be transferred from gas/solution (water) to the atmosphere or absorbed through porous dispersion of hydrophobic membranes. Contactors consist of thousands of capillary fibers (made of PP or PTFE hydrophobic polymers) wrapped around a central tube or wrapped by a braided mesh. Since hollow fiber membranes are hydrophobic (water repellent), some hydrophilic liquids (such as water) will not penetrate the pores of the membrane wall. The higher the pressure difference between the liquid flow and the gas flow, the better because the air transfer membrane is higher. Therefore, the contactor provides a constant interface area over the entire flow range.
