Description

A microfiltration (MF) system is a water treatment technology that uses membranes to remove suspended solids, bacteria, and other contaminants from water. The MF process involves passing water through a membrane with extremely small pores, small enough to retain contaminants but allow water molecules to pass through. MF systems are commonly used in water treatment plants to remove suspended solids, bacteria and other pollutants from water. The design of an IF system will depend on the specific application and desired results. MF membranes are usually made of synthetic materials such as polyethylene or polypropylene and arranged in a series of parallel modules or cassettes. Water to be treated is introduced into the MF system and pumped under pressure through the membrane. As water flows through the pores of the membrane, suspended solids, bacteria and other contaminants are retained on the surface of the membrane, while treated water passes through and is collected on the other side of the membrane. Retained contaminants are periodically removed from the membrane surface by backwashing or other cleaning methods, and the treated water is collected for further treatment or discharged to the environment.
