The dorsal root ganglion is a swelling nodule of the dorsal root of the spinal cord near the medial side of each foramina. It consists of centripetal sensory fiber cells. It receives all nerve impulses from body receptors, including general somatosensory and visceral sensory, and transmits them to the spinal cord via centripetal fibers. It's the starting point of physical sensation.
