Cat Number: STEM-NN-0014-LC
Application: Support many other fields of medicine, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) and magnetic hyperthermia
Surface Functionalized Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles consist of iron oxides cores that can be targeted to the required area through external magnets. They show interesting properties such as superparamagnetism, high field irreversibility, high saturation field, extra anisotropy contributions or shifted loops after field cooling. The SPIONs would not show magnetic interaction after the external magnetic field is removed which make them popular as microcarrier in drug delivery applications. SPIONs typically have a magnetic particle core coated with a biocompatible polymer. The coating acts to shield the magnetic particle from the surrounding environment and can also be functionalized by attaching carboxyl groups, biotin, avidin, carbodiimide and other molecules in order to increase the targeting yield. These molecules then act as attachment points for the coupling of cytotoxic drugs or target antibodies to the carrier complex.
