Official Full Name: ciliary neurotrophic factor receptor
This gene encodes a member of the type 1 cytokine receptor family. The encoded protein is a ligand-specific component of the ciliary neurotrophic factor tripartite receptor, which plays a key role in neuronal cell survival, differentiation and gene expression. Ciliary neurotrophic factor binds to the encoded protein, recruits the transmembrane component of the receptor gp130 and the leukemia inhibitory factor receptor, and facilitates signal transduction. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in this gene may be associated with changes in muscle strength and the early onset of eating disorders. Alternative splicing transcript variants were observed in this gene.
