Official Full Name: dicer 1, ribonuclease III<br />Also known as: DCR1; GLOW; MNG1; aviD; Dicer; HERNA; RMSE2; Dicer1e; K12H4.8-LIKE<br />This gene encodes a protein with an RNA helicase motif containing a DEXH box at its amino terminus and an RNA motif at its carboxy terminus. The encoded protein functions as a ribonuclease and is required for the RNA interference and small temporal RNA (stRNA) pathways to generate active small RNA components that repress gene expression. The protein is also a powerful antiviral drug, active against RNA viruses including Zika and SARS-CoV-2. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
