Interleukin (IL-37) is a new member of the IL-1 family, with five different subtypes (IL-37a-e). Currently, only IL-37b has been shown to have biological functions and anti-inflammatory effects in a variety of diseases. IL-37 can either be secreted outside the cell as a cytokine, bind to receptors to regulate cell activity, or enter the nucleus as a transcription regulator.
