Introduction

IL-5 is a pleiotropic cytokine, also known as T cell replacement factor, eosinophil colony-stimulating factor 1, eosinophil differentiation factor, etc., mainly produced by T cells (1-4). In humans, IL-5 is mainly produced by activated T cells, and some human T-cell leukemia cell lines, Epstein-Barr virus-transformed B cells, and eosinophils can also produce IL-5. In mice it is produced by cells of the Th2 subpopulation. IL-5 mainly promotes the differentiation, maturation, activation, migration and survival of eosinophils.
