Nesfatin 1 (NES1) is a neuropeptide produced in the mammalian hypothalamus. It is involved in regulating hunger and fat storage. An increase in nesfatin-1 in the hypothalamus contributes to a reduction in hunger, "fullness," and, potentially, loss of body fat and weight. Nesfatin-1 is a polypeptide encoded in the N-terminal region of the protein precursor, Nucleobindin2 (NUCB2).
