Analysis of Plant Plasmodesmata in Plant-Pathogen Interactions

Plasmodesmata (PD) are membranous intercellular nanochannels that connect adjacent cells and enable cell-to-cell trafficking of a variety of molecules which are essential for plant development and stress responses. PD are functionally critical during the development of plants by controlling the intercellular exchange of both micro-molecules and macro-molecules. PD also play an important role in plant-pathogen interactions. Plants can regulate the opening and closing of PD to impede the spread of invading pathogens. Pathogens also promote infection by increasing the PD size exclusion limit (SEL) which is a major determinant of PD permeability.

STEMart helps study the status of PD in plant-pathogen interactions and the influencing factors.

Test Capabilities

  • Detect the density, morphology, and permeability of plasmodesmata
  • Quantify the accumulation of callose at plasmodesmata
  • Detect PD-located plasmodesmal permeability regulators
