One of the most extensively by SDSL EPR studied fibril-forming proteins is αsynuclein (α-Sn) that plays a crucial role in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
The protein is predominantly localized in presynaptic nerve terminals and is thought to interact with synaptic vesicles in vivo. Fibrillar α-Sn is the main component of Lewy bodies from Parkinson’s disease. It is a 140-residue protein that appears to be intrinsically disordered.
