Animal fibers, also known as protein fibers, are made up primarily of proteins. Animal fibers can be divided into two subgroups based on the protein composition and utilization: silk, and hair fibers. Silk contains primarily fibroin and thus dissolves when placed in concentrated hydrochloric acid. Animal hair have fibers with a multicellular structure composed of keratin. Such as: sheep hair (wool), alpaca hair, angora hair, bison hair, camel hair, rabbit hair, horse hair, and goat hair (cashmere, mohair).
Not all animal fibers have the same properties, and even within a species the fiber is not consistent. STEMart provides a wide range of testing services to evaluate the properties of animal fibers including but not limit to chemical composition, physical, mechanical, and electrical properties, etc.
