Flexural Testing

Flexural Testing measures the force required to bend a beam of material under a specified loading condition to determine the flexibility of a material. Flexural Testing is designed to determine the flexural modulus and flexural strength of a material. Flexural modulus is calculated from the slope of the stress vs. strain deflection curve. It indicates the maximum force a material can withstand before permanent deformation. Flexural strength is defined as the maximum stress at the outermost fiber on either the compression or tension side of the specimen.

STEMart performs a variety of flexural testing to evaluate the ability of materials to resist to flexing and stiffness.

Applicable Standards
  • ASTM
  • ISO
Flexural Testing Types
  • Three Point Flexure Bend Testing: Place the sample horizontally upon two points and apply the force to the top of the sample through a single point so than the sample is bent in the shape of a "V".
  • Four Point Flexure Bend Testing: Place the sample horizontally upon two points and apply the force to the top of the sample through two points so than the sample is bent in the shape of a "U".
